Curtis Bay Hotel

image17.gif (28191 bytes)The Curtis Bay Hotel, now known as the "Pennington" was built during World War I by the Baltimore Car and Foundry Company. This hostelry, along with a group of houses, known as the "Car Shop Houses", surrounding it, was built to care for the officials and workers who moved into the area during this period. After the war, the hotel was to be converted into a hospital, but with the erection of South Baltimore General Hospital in Broening Park, the plans were abandoned. Today it is the Pennington Hotel and the "Car Shop Houses" are still occupied by many residents of Curtis Bay.
